Comment: I obtained some nice chalcedony pieces in a shop in Bali. On inquiry I was told the general area where they came from so I took a trip to java. The villagers find them by using long iron rods to probe the soft earth at the base of Mt Merrimu, when they hear the tell tale clink of metal on stone they dig. The ash from the volcano when it erupts covers the bamboo and if it does not burn it becomes silicified, Similar to the fossilized remains of pompeii etc. The minerals are a great talking point and certainly are really magnificent specimens. Note the size.!!
